SIDE
Dice usually appears to us with six sides , but are there more possibilities?
We believe there is. The dice means that we are still growing up. The seventh side could be spinning with an undefined shape.
When we first started school three years ago, we only knew the common knowledge that there were six sides of a dice and never thought about the possibilities. In these three years, we have kept observing, accepting differences, kept loving, not being bound by a solidified framework, kept spinning and starting with the trend but not ending against it. We have found a seventh side that is entirely our own and unbound.
Each of us holds our own dice, which we can keep throwing to get different answers, and the process is full of surprises. It is a breakthrough, a way of stepping out of our comfort zone to explore a new self. In our creation, we try to express the common things in an unconventional way, presenting ordinary tools and common materials in a more creative way through deconstruction and reconstruction. Even when we encounter obstacles, we can still keep trying and making our own dice turn again.
The final exhibition was curated by some students from grade 12, who worked under the guidance of their teachers to complete the work from theme to visual design, spatial design and co-ordination. The exhibition contains the works of students from grade 12 in various disciplines such as fine art, graphic design, architectural space, interaction design, jewellery, illustration, fashion and animation and games, with a variety of forms and themes that are different from the norm. We get information from our surroundings, observe, research, criticise, understand and create. We dare to express our opinions, which may be unexpected, but are never made up out of thin air or out of belief.
Our work is the six visible sides of the dice, and the seventh side is a feeling, the result of our reflection with the viewer. It is abstract, but it is real. When the viewers appreciate our work, they have their own emotions and perceptions. And these perceptions, together with our expressions, build this seventh side.
For us, AIP and the teachers here help us to keep spinning and exploring our seventh side. Although we can't stay here forever, these three years have been an important part of growing up and we are still moving on. This graduation exhibition is a summary of what we have achieved over the past three years and a result of collaboration. The dice are now in our own hands, we will throw it with our own style and throw our own future path.
