I started this project inspired by maleficent, one of my favorite
movies in recent years. This project is about Faline, a fairy who falls in love with
human beings and disguises herself to enter human society. She discovered the
dark side of human nature in the human society, experienced the hardness of
breeding and the sadness of not being accepted, and finally removed the disguise
and returned to the magic forest.I focus on the physical and spiritual variation
during this experience and design costumes for her in each period which can
better represent her attitude.
Young and ignorant, Faline knows nothing about giving birth to a baby. As a fairy,
she is full of curiosity, love and fear for the unborn child. I investigated the artistic
works of gestational expression with static sculptures, observed and depicted the
changes of mother and child in the gestational process, and experimented with
materials inspired by childbirth.
From the development of the previous steps, I find that the uterus and the bud give
me a similar feeling, full and vitality. In Da Vinci’s notes that I researched, we can
find that people’s early understanding of the womb is like a flower bud. The
embryo and uterus shown by B-ultrasound are very lovely， I combined it with the
color and texture of flowers and used tufting techniques to make fabrics.In
addition to the inspiration given to me by the flower bud, In order to show a
stronger and powerful female image as a mother, I did research on early women’s
suits and tried to wear women’s suit jackets in a new way. on the right is the
following collage and design.
